Shukhrat Safin

Shukhrat Safin (3 April 1970 in Samarkand – 20 September 2009 in Samarkand)[1] was a chess Grandmaster (1999). He took part in the FIDE World Chess Championship 2002, but was knocked out in the first round by Predrag Nikolić.[2]

In 2001, he won the Uzbekistan chess championship. In 2008 he came third in the Kolkata Open.[3] In 2009, tied for 5th-10th with Chakkravarthy Deepan, Georgy Timoshenko, Sundar Shyam, Saidali Iuldachev and Andrei Deviatkin in the Mumbai Mayor Cup.[4] He died of blood cancer.
